Christmas Message from Atty. Marlyn Primicias-Agabas

Christmas has nothing to do with material things. Many of us are preoccupied with on material wealth and changing the physical aspects of our lives. But what is important is that need to have a change of heart. One might ask how possible it is to celebrate Christmas without having new clothes, delicious food, extravagant decorations, or gifts. However, the essence of Christmas is to remind us to focus on the reality of life, the importance of families, and of peace within ourselves and among others. We may not abound in worldly treasures but we have many reasons to thank God. We may continue to ask Him for his blessings and our selfless desires to be able to serve others.

I would like to share the story of two angels which was just told by one of my siblings this afternoon:

There are two angels, aged and young, who were sent on earth to fulfill a mission. They were transformed as humans and they had to beg for alms since the weather was murky and cold. As they reached a seemingly huge house, they asked the rich man if he could spare some help. Without hesitation, the man allowed them to stay overnight. He offered an underground room. Before the angels left, the old angel covered a tiny hole with a piece of wooden material. The young angel noticed what the old angel did but he didn’t react.

When the two angels reached the second house, they asked the family if they could stay for the night. The father eagerly offered their only room and gave them the only blanket they have.  Just before they were about to leave as the morning approached, the young angel saw the family weeping over a cow which is the sole source of their income. The young angel complained why the old angel allowed this to happen while he even did some repair on the floor at the rich man’s house. The young angel believed it was unfair but the old angel humbly explained. He told the young angel that he covered the tiny hole on the floor because he saw a treasure casket underneath. He did not want the rich man to discover it for fear that he might become more miserly. On the other hand, he allowed the death of the poor family’s cow as a sacrifice for the life of the child who was very ill. He knew that the family could work harder to be able to survive but they could not afford to lose their only son. Since then, the young angel resisted complaining before he could understand the reasons behind circumstances.

Dear friends, as we celebrate Christmas, let us be reminded of God’s never ending love and overflowing grace. Thus, we should find ways to share our blessings to others. Let us learn to look at the brighter side of things and let us be thankful for what we have. God does not give us problems we could not solve. Sometimes, He makes things difficult for us to be able to learn more and do better things in our lives.  We need to stop complaining. If we find it hard to find solutions, at least we try not to be a part or the cause of a problem.
